CHARNA LITTLE:
CHANGING THE WORLD
ONE SCENT AT A TIME
She speaks about her challenges as a Black
businesswoman and her goals for the future
(May 28) Charna Little may stand barely over five-feet but her illuminating
entrepreneurial spirit has her standing tall amongst giants. Meeting her via
networking site, Black Business Women Online, I as well as others have become
accustomed to her generosity and spunky personality.
Her company, Majestique Events & Gifts combines two of her loves: helping people
and creating unique spa and gift baskets for her clients. Offering over 50 different
scents that she creates by hand, she adds her personal touch to over 100 specially-
wrapped product and once received, you can feel the love and hard work she put
into each intricate detail. Thank you for the basket you made for my future nephew!
TheBlackSpotlight.com (BSL) got the opportunity to speak with Charna about why
she started her own business, the challenges she face and where she can see
herself and Majestique in the future.
BSL Before you ventured out and started your own business, what were you doing?
CHARNA I was working full time as a Visual Specialist for a major department
store. They shall remain nameless but thanks to them, I stayed fully motivated to be
my OWN boss.
BSL I hear that. What was that deciding factor for you to leave the corporate world
and to start your own business?
CHARNA My last $.30 raise. No… really, 30 cents for a back breaking, brow-
sweating year of contributing to a multi-billion dollar company. Don’t get me wrong. I
value the experience but to work so hard for a company and receive very little in
return, to me, it’s just not worth it. Besides, I needed to be able to focus on the
growth of my own company. I have known for a very long time that I needed to work
for myself. I’d rather sit up and work around the clock for myself than work 8-10 hours
for someone else who in the end will not appreciate it.
BSL How long have you been in business?
CHARNA I started Majestique in 2000 after my daughter was born. However, this is
my first year being able to focus completely on my business! I’m really excited about
the growth!
