(June 16) Poetry has always held a special place in my heart. Being able to express their
true feelings and thoughts through verbal imaginary is a true gift and Anthony Goodley
possesses this gift.
Best known to his audiences as W.I.S.D.O.M S.U.P.R.E.M.E., Goodley is a natural-born
poet with admirable skills in writing that he shares with the world through his own column,
Jewels of Wisdom on TheWriteVibe.com and AssociatedContent.com. His fans are also
entertained via his online radio show, Supreme Entertainment.
BSL spoke with the New York-based poet (WS) about his true love for words, Hip Hop
and being a Black man in America.
BSL Explain the meaning behind W.I.S.D.O.M S.U.P.R.E.M.E.
WS Well the name came to me after reading the autobiography of Malcolm X back in high
school. I was inspired by the way this man led his life and how he stood by his beliefs and I
felt that I wanted to live my life in a similar fashion and wanted a name that reflected that.
So I thought of the 2 biggest influences in my life at the time which were spirituality and Hip
Hop!
So Wisdom represents the spiritual side and is an acronym for with intelligence spirituality
dominates over materialism. Supreme represents the poetical or Hip-Hop side and is an
acronym for strictly underground poetical rhythmic educational musical entertainment!
BSL You write some of the most beautiful poetry I have ever read. What inspires
you?
WS Life inspires me, the people in it, how they act, interact or react with each other. Also
things that I may go through, or what people around me that I know experience!
BSL As a poet who are some other poets that you admire?
WS Langston Hughes, Robert Frost, Brother Earl, Nercity, Rainmaker, Jive Poetic, and I
can't forget about the Hip-Hop Poets like Rakim, KRS-1, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G. Rap,
Slick Rick, Nas, TuPac, Immortal Technique, Outkast, etc.
