THE BLACK SPOTLIGHT
Shining A Light on African American Entertainment & Culture
MOVIE REVIEW:
COVER
The most slept-on movie of 2008
(May 26) Cover really takes it there.
Directed by Bill Duke, Cover tells the story through the eyes of Valerie
Maas, a devout Christian woman (played by Auntjanue Ellis) who describes
that her husband, Dutch (Raazaq Adoti) has been hiding a big life-altering
secret. When she finds out the truth, her whole world is turned upside down
and she loses her faith. To make matters worse, while she is still dealing
with her husband's deadly secret, she is the prime suspect in a homicide.
Overall, Cover is an excellent movie. Great script and a phenomenal cast.
Actor Leon played his part to the T and I was so happy to see Paula Jai
Parker prove that she could play a part that did not involve her being a
prostitute or having to take off her clothes.
Cover tackles some very difficult issues that many films would not dare
tackle hence the reason for its poor promotion and limited theater release
locations.
Cover is a MUST-SEE!
Cover also stars Vivica A Fox, Patti Labelle, Roger Guenveur Smith, Clifton
Powell, and Oscar winner Lou Gossett Jr.
