What type of feedback have you been receiving? I know that your book has become
a best seller now. Congratulations!
Thank you so much! It has been wonderful. No doubt, the title itself has sparked major
controversy. A lot of people feel like why in the world would you name a book, “Why Black
People Can’t Lose Weight? It sounds so negative.” I’ve gotten some feedback like that. I
have gotten people who have said that by page 7, they are in tears because they can’t
believe the misinformation that has been propaganda. The book has changed their lives
because they are implementing the solutions that I have outlined in the book. Good or bad, I
welcome the dialogue because it gets the issue out.
It’s no secret that African American men and women tend to be at the top of the list
when it comes to being cancer patients and sufferers of heart disease and other
health issues. As a whole, is it that we’re not fully educated on the benefits of a
healthy diet and exercise?
Absolutely! We got some education but it’s not the proper education. We have to be willing to
do the research. Anybody can do exactly what I did. Over the years, I have conducted my own
research. Now, the Internet has made things so easy so we can utilize it to educate ourselves.
It’s our culture and our own self-deposed belief system and that we can no longer go on
blaming others for not allowing us to have certain advantages to education.
We are one month into a brand new year and the majority of Americans have made
their New Years Resolution to be they will lose x amount of pounds for the year. In
your opinion, why do most individuals lose track after about a month?
Historically, you’re right. It does happen about after a month. It’s because when we make
these resolutions, it all starts mentally. It doesn’t matter if you want to stop smoking, lose
weight or become more organized. We have to plan. I am a heavy supporter of addressing
emotional issues and psychology, particularly when it comes to African Americans. I really
believe there are certain things we need to implement first before we can even begin to set
out to accomplish a given goal or a resolution.
I have a two-step process that will address any issue that you may have in your life. People
are not mentally or emotionally prepared to accomplish their resolutions so they inevitably will
fall off the wagon and start over next year.
