80TH ANNUAL ACADEMY
AWARDS AIRS LIVE
SUNDAY NIGHT

Check out some of The Black Spotlight's picks for
the Oscar
(February 23) Ah, yes, it’s Oscar time: the moment that defines how the beloved “Academy”
views the quality of your recent work.

For the last six years, I have been tuning into the Academy Award to see if someone who
looks like me will win.

In 2002, it was for Halle, Denzel and Will. In 2004, it was between Jamie and Don. I was
pulling for Terrance, Three 6 Mafia but most importantly for the theatrical masterpiece,
Crash
in 2006 and last year, it was all about Jennifer, Forest and Will again for the second time.

This year, I’m rooting for Ms. Ruby.

Unfortunately we are not represented by the Academy as well as we should, I will take what
we can get (for right now.)

So, who do I think will win at the 80th Annual Academy Awards? Through extensive research
(well, not really) I list some of my choices of who will take him the coveted Oscar.

Best Motion Picture of the Year
Crash won it and so did Titantic. This year, I’m leaning towards Atonement. Not much of a fan
when it comes to period pieces, especially British, but this film has a great plot and
performers. Sorta reminds me of
The Notebook.

Best Performance by and Actor in a Leading Role
Sorry Mr. ER but Daniel Day Lewis is taking this award home for There Will Be Blood. Lewis
has already bagged countless awards for this role and is also a favorite to swipe up his 2nd
Oscar for it, too.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role
The competition is extremely tight for this one but I’m going for Cate Blanchett. Great actress
and who would dare deny the Queen her just due?

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role
Ben’s little brother took a close second but Javier Bardem’s character spoke volumes and
really carried the movie.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role
Of all the roles that this lady of distinction has played, she gets her first ever Oscar nomination
as the mother of a heroin kingpin. She has already won the SAG Award for her role and will
set her Oscar right beside it.

Best Documentary
Ever since Michael Moore exposed the corruption that is the Bush camp in the infamous
Fahrenheit 9/11, I have been a fan and his latest documentary, Sicko is no exception.

Best Animated Feature Film of the Year
Another tight race in my opinion but Ratatouelle has the star power to make this a great
leader for the Oscar.

Watch the Oscars tomorrow night at 8pm EST on ABC to see if I hit any answers on the head.
