Which leading man dominated
the box office?
Idris Elba in Prom Night (Screen Gems); Forest Whitaker in
Street Kings (Fox Searchlight Pictures)
(April 14) For some movie-goers, it seemed like a toss-up but the Box Office revealed the
winning film of the weekend. With a dominating $22.7M in its debut weekend,
Prom Night
swipes the #1 slot. In this formal teen party gone wrong, it stars British hottie, Idris Elba as
Detective Winn who aims to protect a young woman who is being stalked by a serial killer.

In second place is the gritty film,
Street Kings starring Academy Award winner Forest
Whitaker and a slew of other well known talents (comedian Cedric the Entertainer, actors
Terry Crews and Naomie Harris, rappers Common and The Game). The cop thriller brings
in a $12M.

Once in first place for two solid weeks drops to #3 was the gamble-driven true story

starring Laurence Fishburne and still brought in $11M (gross: $62.3M).

Fantasy tale,
Nim's Island came in fourth with $9 this weekend for a grand total of $25.3M.
Football flick,
Leatherheads starring leading man George Clooney dropped to #5 and
brought in $6.21M (gross: $21.9M).

Kid-friendly
Horton Gives A Who! is not giving up with a fight and slips slightly below the
top 5 with $6M but grossing an impressively $140M.

In its opening weekend,
Smart People creeps in at #7 with $4.2M and thriller, The Ruins
falls beneath it with $3.25M, grossing $13.4M.

Parodying your favorite caped crusaders in the Superhero Movie brings in $3.11M this
weekend and steadily falls into #9, totaling $21.2M.

And lastly, #10 this weekend belongs to the not so funny comedy,
Drillbit Taylor bringing in
$2.07M for a total of $28.5M.

Tyler Perry's
Meet the Browns, which is no longer in the Top 10 has grossed $40.1M as of
April 11.
