(February 27) Many can say that 2007 was a phenomenal year for the singer/dancer Ciara
Harris.

The Atlanta native, best known for singing about "not giving up the goodies," released her
sophomore album,
Ciara: The Evolution. It achieved multi-platinum status in the United States
as well as internationally with chart-topping singles,
Promise, Get Up, Like A Boy, and Can't
Leave 'Em Alone
, her duet with rumored rapping boy-toy and Vitamin Water drinker, Curtis "50
Cent" Jackson.

Last summer, she raked in even more loot and attracted millions when she co-headlined with
the King of the South rap superstar, T.I. for the Screamfest '07 Tour. Ciara even got her fashion
game started when she became one of the faces of rap mogul, Jay-Z's Rocawear women
campaign, "I Will Not Lose."

Now she has decided to hit the big screen and in a way she knows best.
She has recently signed on to play the lead character in the film,
Mama, I Want to Sing! Written
and directed by Charles Randolph-Wright,
Mama, I Want to Sing! will be an adaptation through
CodeBlack Entertainment of the Off-Broadway gospel musical of the same title.

The play originally hit the stage back in 1984. and is based on the life of Doris Troy, a
preacher's daughter who sang in a church choir before being discovered by James Brown at the
famous Apollo theater.

Ciara will play Amara Winter, a preacher's daughter who aspires to become a pop sensation
and achieves international fame. This is what the singer now turned actress had to say in
response to her new project:

"I just want to be an amazing actress," she says. "I'm looking forward to a great career and I'm
looking forward to many more film experiences, you know, and definitely just becoming my own."

Some of her critics are questioning whether or not the young songstress' voice can hold a tune
next to the legendary Patti LaBelle who also stars in the movie as Sister Carrie.

Other stars signed to appear in the film include Ben Vereen, Lynn Whitfield, Hill Harper, Ne-Yo,
Bobby Valentino, Billy Zane, Kim Porter, Ralph Tresvant and many more. The All-Star cast is
bound to bring in huge numbers in the box office.

Several Broadway musicals including as Rent, Dreamgirls and Hairspray have made the
transition from the stage to the big screen and have made impressive numbers. Will this film
follow in the lead of these big Blockbuster movies?
