JAMIE FOXX
GETS WAXED
The actor/singer becomes the
latest addition to Madame
Tussand Wax Museum
(February 8) What does Jamie Foxx, Oprah, Winfrey, Martin Luther King, Muhammad Ali and
Whoopi Goldberg all have in common? Including Foxx as the latest addition, they have all
been displayed as life-like wax figures at the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in Las Vegas.
The unveiling of the Academy Award winner launched the month-long celebration of Black
History Month.
For the museum's officials, they believed that Foxx was a "natural choice because he not only
embodies the upper echelon of celebrity that they look to celebrate but what he represents to
Americans as a whole, one with the ability to take born-talent, drive and commitment and
transform them into something magical. " In order to capture the uncanny essence of the
Unpredictable performer, he had to sit through a 2-hour session where Tussauds Studio
artists took precise measurements and records of exact skin, hair and eye color.
Born Eric Bishop, his career began as a stand-up comic and got his lucky break in 1991 in
the sketch comedy show, In Living Color. He was later featured in his own self-titled show
where he appealed to a large demographic. Although starring in various films, such as Booty
Call, Held Up and Bait, it wasn't until he appeared in the dramatic football flick, Any Given
Sunday that he made critics and Hollywooders pay attention.
In 2004, his career skyrocketed and he was everywhere. The funny man took a dramatic
approach and appeared four dramatic roles in a year's time: The Stan Tookie Williams
Story; Shade; Collateral (with Tom Cruise) and his Oscar-winning portrayal of Ray Charles.
He returned to his true love of music when he released his debut album, Peep This but it
received little fanfare. Fortunately, he didn't give up on his dream and the J Records artist
released Unpredictable and it went multi-platinum worldwide. Last September he was
awarded with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Currently, the 40-year old actor is filming The Soloist, the life of Nathaniel Ayers, a
schizophrenic violinist and has his own channel on Sirius radio, the Foxxhole.
