(April 18) Songstress Leona Lewis has been having a phenomenal week.
Dethroning mega-superstar Mariah Carey from her spot on the top of the Billboard Hot
100, Lewis regained her position back at #1 with her international hit, Bleeding Love.
Released in the United States last week, Lewis' debut album Spirit went straight to #1 on
the Billboard 200 selling 205,000 units, making it the first time for a British artist to
dominate an American chart within the last 25 years.
For her debut album, she worked with extraordinary talents Dallas Austin, Stargate, Walter
Afanasieff, NeYo and Akon.
Her career began in 2006 when she won the UK talent show, X-Factor. It was during the
competition that she caught the attention of producer and American Idol judge, Simon
Cowell. Cowell and J Records exec Clive Davis formed the first of its kind partnership to
give Lewis a major push in the United States.
The often time quiet singer, still in the early stages of her career, is already being
compared to legendary singers Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.
Lewis is set to appear on American Idol next week.
