NAS CHANGES
ALBUM TITLE

Was the rapper forced or was it
just a publicity stunt?
(May 20) Just weeks prior to the release of his ninth album, conscientious
rapper, NAS has decided to change the title. Verified through a Def Jam
representative, the Queens-bred rapper was pressured to change the name of
his album from the once controversial title,
NIGGER to now being called NAS.

The rapper released a statement yesterday through EW:

It’s important to me that this album gets to the fans. It’s been a long time
coming. I want my fans to know that, creatively and lyrically, they can expect the
same content and the same messages. It’s that important. The streets have
been waiting for this for a long time. The people will always know what the real
title of this album is and what to call it.

Fans are discussing on numerous blogs and message boards whether or not
the recent album change was more of a publicity stunt to bring more attention to
the artist or another legit reason.

The newly self-titled album,
NAS will hit stores July 1.
