OBAMA SECURES
DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION
He has won the battle, now he's in the
Presidential war
By Crystal Myrick
(June 4) The American people have spoken.
Yesterday former Illinois Senator Barack Obama acquired 2136 delegates and is
now therefore, the Democratic Presidential hopeful, the first African American in
history to do so.
It was a long and tedious battle between he and Sen. Clinton but it was a wrap after
Obama dominated her in the Montana primary. Severa officials came forth to back
Obama, including former President, Jimmy Carter, Sen. Ted Kennedy and
Congresswoman Maxine Waters, who was originally a Clinton supporter.
America anxiously awaits his decision for his running mate. Potential candidates in
the running includes, Gov. Bill Richardson, Sen. Jim Webb and even his former
competitor Sen. Clinton.
Publisher's Note: Tuesday was a historical day not just for African Americans but
also for the United States as a whole. We witnessed a change in this country’s
momentum. For black children, particularly males who dreamt of becoming the
President of this nation can now look at Obama's recent accomplishment as an
example of someone who was once the underdog and came out on top.
